OziExplorer - Running OziExplorer with Windows Vista

Using OziExplorer with Windows Vista

The latest versions of OziExplorer and OziExplorer3D are compatible with Windows Vista. New versions can be downloaded from the OziExplorer and OziExplorer3D web page.

OziExplorer3D

OziExplorer3D Version 1.11 and later versions are Vista compatible. If you are having any problems, check the Help Menu / About option in the software for the version you have installed.

IMPORTANT : If you are running an earlier version, you need to download and install version 1.11 of OziExplorer3D.

If version 1.11 of OziExplorer3D still freezes you may need to install a Vista compatible set of drivers for your graphics card provided by the manufacturer of the graphics card, these are usually provided on the manufacturers web site.

Please note that the manufacturer may not be providing Vista compatible drivers for older graphics cards.

Magellan GPS Driver Issues

It has been reported the Magellan drivers are not Vista compatible. This may cause issues running moving map in OziExplorer. It is recommended you check the Magellan website for updated drivers for Windows Vista.

Installing OziExplorer

When installing OziExplorer a dialog will appear asking for for permission to install, this is normal for Vista. If you are logged in as Administrator you just need to give permission, if you are not logged in you need to enter an Administrator ID and password before proceeding.

After doing this proceed with the install.

After installing you may receive a warning indicating "This program may not have installed correctly" and you will be presented with 2 options "Reinstall with compatibility settings" and "This program installed correctly". Just choose the "This program installed correctly" option.

Map and Data Folders

If you install OziExplorer into the "Program Files" folder tree then you should not store your maps in the Map folder attached to the OziExplorer folder as Vista does not allow programs to write files to any folder in "Program Files". When software write files to these folders they are redirected to a "Virtualstore" folder in the users own folder area which can cause confusion as you may end up with 2 copies of the file which are different. The same applies to the Data folder.

The Map and Data folders could be put in

If OziExplorer or OziExplorer3D does not run at all in Vista (Data Execution Protection - DEP Issue)

This shouldn't be a problem for Vista (32 bit install) unless DEP is turned on specifically but Vista (64 bit install) has it on automatically. Note : Vista (32Bit) does not have DEP turned on unless it has been turned on specifically.

It seems that when Windows Vista - Data Execution Protection (DEP) is turned on for all programs it is causing OziExplorer (or OziExplorer3D) to crash on start-up.

Follow the instructions below to fix this issue.
