Unsupported PDA's

  • OziExplorerCE will not run on any PDA's using the Palm Operating System
  • OziExplorerCE will not run on the Garmin iQue 3200 and 3600 as these are PDA's which use the Palm Operating System.
  • OziExplorerCE will not work on Smartphones

We have no immediate plans to support these platforms.

Use the development version of OziExplorerCE. Changes have been made in this version to better support VGA screens

OziCE Development Version

During the OziExplorerCE installation the following message will be received.

"The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software"

Ignore his message, it will be removed in the next version.

Navman PiN - Configuring OziExplorerCE for the Navman PiN.

Configure OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)

  • Communication Port - Select the port COM2 from the drop down list. The later model PiN's (such as the 570) use COM8.

  • Baud Rate - set to 4800. The later model PiN's (such as the 570) use 9600

  • Sentence - GPRMC

  • GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84

  • Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)

  • Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect.  If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.

Additional information for the later model PiN's such as the 570

The Notification Indicator light in the top left corner must be ON for OziExplorerCE to establish connection with the GPS.

  • Flashing Amber - Indicates the GPS receiver is turned on and is trying to establish a GPS fix.

  • Solid Amber - Indicates the GPS receiver is turned on and has a GPS fix.

To turn on GPS - Click Windows Start, Settings, System, GPS.  Here there is one setting "GPS Power Setting" which has 2 buttons - ON and OFF.  Even though the ON button is highlighted it has not been pressed.  If this ON button is selected the light in the top left corner of the unit should begin to flash.
 

Navman PiN - Does not show the Satellite Information or Altitude.

When you run the Navman SmartST software (Version 3) it programs the GPS to output only the NMEA sentences it requires and does not reset it when it exits.

OziExplorerCE v1.11.6f and later have the ability to check for the $GPGGA and $GPGSV NMEA sentences and turn them back on if they are missing. This option on the SIRF tab of the NMEA (GPS) configuration dialog.

Configuring the Garmin iQue M3, iQue M4 and iQue M5.

OziExplorerCE will run on the iQue M3, M4 and M5.

Configuring OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)

Select the Communication port from the drop down list. The drop-down list shows the actual ports which the PDA has installed and a description of each port is shown.

  • Communication Port - COM 2 but it could be COM 4 with newer models (iQue M4) or older models with ROM upgrade.

  • Baud Rate - set to 4800

  • Sentence - GPRMC

  • GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84

  • Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)

  • Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect.  If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.

Note - The M5 does not output its position data on any of its external ports therefore it is not possible to connect the M5 to a PC and use it for moving map (real time tracking).

Configuring the Asus 632 / 636.

OziExplorerCE will run on the Asus 632 and Asus 636.

Configuring OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)

Select the Communication Port port from the drop down list. The drop-down list shows the actual ports which the PDA has installed and a description of each port is shown.

  • Communication Port - COM 5 should be the port to use

  • Baud Rate - set to 4800

  • Sentence - GPRMC

  • GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84

  • Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)

  • Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect.  If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.

Note - The Asus models do not output position data on any of the external ports therefore it is not possible to connect the them to a PC and use it for moving map (real time tracking).

Configuring the Asus 636 for several programs to run at the same time.

Windows Mobile 5 has the option to configure the system so that two programs can receive the sentences from the GPS at the same time.

Click "Start" / "Settings" / "System Tab". On the System page click "GPS". Configure the following -

  • On the GPS Settings "Programs" tab, set the "GPS program port" to COM9.

  • On the GPS Settings "Hardware" tab, set the "GPS hardware port" to COM5 and "Baud rate" to 4800.

  • On the GPS Settings "Access" tab, tick "Manage GPS Automatically"

  • Click "ok"

All programs must be configured to use COM9 as the GPS communication port. All other OziExplorerCE settings will as shown above.

MyGuide 6500 - Configuring the MyGuide 6500.

OziExplorerCE will run on the MyGuide 6500 PocketPC.

Configure OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)

Select the Communication port from the drop down list. The drop-down list shows the actual ports which the PDA has installed and a description of each port is shown.

  • Communication Port - COM2: Serial cable on SP2

  • Baud Rate - set to 4800

  • Sentence - GPRMC

  • GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84

  • Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)

  • Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect.  If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.
